Our sustainability commitment
For every large-scale wind farm and solar park that’s built, we need to install millions of small smart devices. With solar panels, battery technology and smart meters we can unlock smarter energy for all. Enabling businesses and households to transition with zero upfront cost, zero hassle and zero delay.
How we’re racing towards a smarter energy future
We’re driving down our emissions year on year
• 20% of our fleet is electric
• We run our business on 100% renewable energy
• We are proud to have supported the regeneration of Cotton Works in Wigan - our brand new office space in a restored historical mill
• 10 e-bikes have been added to the fleet to lower our carbon output
We’re growing a culture of sustainability
• We have undertaken 113 courses at our Smarter Energy Training Academy, with over 600 attendees.
• 4 Employee Resource Groups launched in 2024, including empowerHER, progress, embRACE and enABLE. Each network champions inclusion, representation, and support for diverse voices across our business.
• We published our Annual Sustainability Report to share our progress with the industry
• We're proud to be a Disability Confident Employer
We’re inspiring change in our communities
• Our support of the educational energy module through our partnership with the Eco Schools national initiative enabled the saving of over 4M kWh of electricity last academic year
• Over £70K donated to charity in 2024, including Wigan Youth Zone
• Sponsored the Great British Spring Clean and hosted our own clean-up events in Wigan
• Launched the Calisen Impact Charitable Trust - an independent charity that aims to support charitable efforts across the UK, prioritising initiatives aligned with national climate goals
Sustainability shapes us
I’m incredibly proud to launch our latest Sustainability Report – a reflection of the progress we’ve made and the growing ambition that drives us forward. This isn’t just a report; it’s a statement of intent and a showcase of the positive impact we’re delivering through the collective efforts of our people and partners. Helen Woodcock
Director of Sustainability
We help the UK meet its climate targets by supporting the rollout of smart meters and other smart infrastructure. We track installations of smart devices against our targets, as we assess how Calisen makes the UK energy system more sustainable.
We will achieve net zero carbon emissions for our operations by 2030 to ensure our business plays its part in changing the energy system. We track the greenhouse emissions created by our operations, the energy we buy, and our supply chain, so we can assess our progress and see where we can make reductions.
We will achieve success together, embracing our differences and enabling everyone to thrive in our inclusive culture. We provide a safe and productive environment for rewarding work where everyone is welcome and we consistently report other diversity profiles of our employees.
We support the economic and social development of our communities and promote sustainable living through training, education, information, resources and charitable support. We support our local communities through charitable support and community projects as well as invest in education for tomorrow’s generation of employees.
We believe doing business isn’t just about what we deliver - it’s about how we show up for our people, our communities, and our planet. Every asset we install, every initiative we support, and every value we live by is a step toward a smarter, fairer, more sustainable future for everyone.
Sustainability is who we are. It shapes the way we work, the decisions we make, and the future we’re helping build. We’re helping families live smarter, greener lives and make better choices for the next generation. We’re creating opportunities for people to learn, grow, and thrive in an industry that’s driving the UK’s low-carbon future.
We’re standing with communities, schools, and charities – not just funding projects, but getting involved, creating connections, and making a difference together. And we’re showing that a business built on values can deliver real, lasting positive impact — for people, places, and the planet. This isn’t just business — it’s a mission, a mindset, and a responsibility we live every day.
