Calisen Germany is part of the Calisen Group, Great Britain's biggest Meter Asset Provider (MAP) and a leading smart metering solutions provider.
We bring over 28 years of experience installing and funding millions of smart meters across multiple customers and manufacturers, supporting the energy transition through scalable solutions. Calisen Germany exists to unlock investment, reduce financial pressure on MSBs, and speed up nationwide deployment, ensuring smart metering reaches scale faster and more efficiently.
CAPEX to OPEX Financing
We purchase and install smart meters, gateways, and CLS boxes (Controllable Local System boxes), removing upfront capital requirements. Costs are recovered through a stable, long-term rental model.
Effective Risk Sharing
Beyond financing hardware, we share rollout, delivery, and technology risks, easing operational pressure on MSBs.
Procurement at Scale
Our market scale allows us to secure best-in-class procurement terms, passing savings on through competitive MAP rental fees.
Inventory & Supply Management
We manage supplier relationships, ordering, and inventory planning. Ensuring reliable, scalable meter availability.
Technology Expertise & Advisory
We bring deep expertise in metering technology, system interoperability, and quality assurance, providing advisory support while respecting MSB technology independence.
Boosting Germany’s energy transition
With more than 16 million smart meters installed across our core markets, Calisen is now expanding into Germany to help Meter Point Operators (Messstellenbetreiber, MSBs) accelerate the rollout of intelligent metering systems (iMSys), a vital foundation for a flexible, digital, and renewable-ready energy system.
Germany’s smart meter rollout is critical to enabling:
Greater renewable integration
Grid flexibility and resilience
Digital energy innovation
Consumer access to flexible tariffs, solar, EV charging, and storage
What is a Meter Asset Provider?
A Meter Asset Provider (MAP) finances, owns, and manages metering hardware, allowing MSBs to roll out smart meters without upfront capital expenditure.
MAP is an established and proven model in the UK, and Calisen is now ready to rollout this successful approach to Germany.
MSBs retain full customer ownership, commercial control, and hardware choice. Calisen does not interfere in MSB business operations, we exist to enable and accelerate them, to help bringing smart energy to all.
With the Meter Asset Provider model, we are jointly contributing a new financing pillar to the German rollout. For local metering point operators and competitive metering point operators, this could be a key accelerator for the digitalisation of the energy transition. With its success in the UK, Calisen has shown how rapidly additional capital can mobilise a rollout. Claus Fest
